Yes on Ordinance 2023-0202
Encourage our King County Council members to vote Yes!
On Tuesday November 14th the King County Council will be voting on an Ordinance that introduces temporary zoning updates for Fall City. This emergency zoning is intended to protect Fall City from small lot sub-divisions until the new Comprehensive Plan and code packages are voted on in 2024. FCSG is supportive of this Ordinance and encourages you to write your council members of sign the online petition which will be presented to the Council prior to the vote.
Sign the online petition by Tuesday morning, Nov 14th
Write your Council members by Monday evening, Nov 13th
Individual emails to each council member are always best, and sign with your name and address. Be thankful for their time and interest in Fall City. Be careful to stay on topic for this Ordinance, and do not talk about infrastructure, the impact of growth on the community, or anything other than being happy to have minimum lot sizes back. The council is very sensitive to the idea that Fall City is anti-growth, and while this is a complicated topic, the Ordinance is focused only on small zoning changes and it is critical that it is adopted and we stay on-topic.
Without this Ordinance and code, developers can continue to build large homes on tiny lots (4-6,000 square feet) until we have a new comprehensive plan. Also, if their current plats under appeal are denied, this code would mean they would have to re-apply under this zoning - which would be amazing progress.
Key points to drive home with the Council:
This code is endorsed by King County Department of Local Service's land use experts
The recommendations are aligned with the official neighborhood character analysis and are based on 3rd party analysis
The minimum lot size and new setbacks encourage area-appropriate development without limiting growth opportunities
Any lots developed under this ordinance will be more aligned with Fall City's existing character, as required by State Law and the Growth Management Act
